Unlike traditional ladders, cat ladders are fixed structures, typically installed against buildings or scaffolds. Cat ladders can be used internally or externally, however, for external use, it is recommended that the ladder (made from mild steel) is Galvanised. This is a finish which has a hot dipping process to ensure the steel is coated, providing longevity to your cat ladder against the outside elements.

You can use a cat ladder inside, as a secondary means of escape off a mezzanine floor, however, this is in certain circumstances – i.e Mezzanine is used for storage purposes only. This is of course subject to Building Regs acceptance.

There are no limitations or restrictions to how high you can go, however, there are stipulations that you need to supply a rest platform / landing, if the ladder exceeds 6m in height.
